Financial Consulting

Unlock Your Financial Potential with Expert Guidance

Annual accounts tell you what happened last year. Financial consulting is about what happens next: whether you can afford to hire, how much to charge, when the tax bills will land, and what the business could be worth when you eventually step back. For many owner-managed businesses those questions are answered by instinct, and the figures only arrive once the year is over.

Our financial consulting is for founders, directors and sole traders who want clearer numbers to make decisions with. That might be a start-up preparing to approach a bank or investors, an established company that has outgrown its spreadsheet, or an owner beginning to think about a sale or succession. Because we also prepare accounts and tax returns, our advice takes account of the tax position from the start.

Our seasoned financial consultants help you develop and execute strategies to achieve your long-term goals. From cash flow optimisation to investment planning, we provide tailored guidance for sustained growth and stability. Choose from a range of specialised services, including:

Create customised plans aligned with client goals, integrating detailed financial projections and strategic initiatives. Build robust financial models to evaluate scenarios, assess feasibility, and optimise resource allocation. Offer insights and recommendations to support clients in achieving goals and securing funding.

Serving businesses and individuals in Watford, High Wycombe and Park Royal, London — and remotely across the UK.

What’s Included

Every engagement is shaped around the decisions you are facing, but most draw on some combination of the following:

Cash flow forecasting

A rolling forecast of money in and out, so you can see pinch points coming, plan for VAT and corporation tax payments, and know early whether you will need extra funding.

Budgeting & management accounts

An annual budget built with you, then monthly or quarterly management accounts that compare actual results against it, with the handful of KPIs that matter most for your business.

Business plans & funding applications

Business plans and financial projections prepared for bank loans, asset finance, investors or grant applications, presented in the format lenders and investors expect to see.

Pricing & margin analysis

Working out what each product, service or customer really earns once direct costs and overheads are allocated, so pricing decisions are based on numbers rather than guesswork.

Valuation & exit planning

Support with understanding what your business might be worth, preparing it for a sale or handover, and planning succession and the tax on an exit well before the deal is on the table.

SEIS & EIS advance assurance

For early-stage companies raising equity, help preparing an application to HMRC for advance assurance under the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme or Enterprise Investment Scheme.

Who It’s For

Start-ups and growing companies

If you are raising money, taking on staff or opening a new site, a forecast and budget give you a plan to measure against. Reliable figures depend on reliable records, so this work often sits alongside our bookkeeping and accounting service.

Contractors, landlords and online sellers

Contractors weighing up their income between contracts, landlords deciding whether to expand a portfolio and e-commerce businesses managing stock and platform fees all benefit from looking ahead. See our pages for contractors, landlords, e-commerce sellers and CIS contractors.

Owners planning ahead

Exit, succession and profit extraction all have tax consequences, so we work closely with our tax planning service on these. If your current accountant only looks back at the year just gone, you can switch to Accutax and add forward-looking support.

How It Works & Fees

Financial consulting can be a one-off project, such as a business plan for a loan application or a valuation ahead of a sale, or ongoing support with regular management accounts and forecast reviews. Cash flow forecasting and management accounts are included in our higher limited company packages, and other advisory work is listed on our pricing page.

Because the scope of advisory work varies so much, we start with a free call to understand your goals, then confirm what we will deliver and a clear quote before any work begins. With over 15 years of experience, our aim is to give you numbers you can act on. Get in touch to arrange a call.

Common questions

What is the difference between management accounts and year-end accounts?

Year-end accounts are statutory: they are prepared once a year for Companies House and HMRC, often months after the period ends. Management accounts are for you. They are produced monthly or quarterly, show how the business is performing now, and can be tailored to the figures you actually use to make decisions.

Can you help me get a business loan?

We cannot arrange or guarantee lending, but we can prepare the business plan, forecasts and supporting figures that banks and other lenders ask for, and help you answer their questions about the numbers. Well-prepared financial information makes an application easier for a lender to assess.

What is SEIS and EIS advance assurance?

The Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme and Enterprise Investment Scheme offer tax reliefs to people who invest in qualifying early-stage companies. Advance assurance is an optional application to HMRC before you raise money, giving an indication of whether the shares are likely to qualify. Many investors look for it before committing. We can help you check the main conditions and prepare the application.

Do I need to be a large business to benefit from financial consulting?

No. Many of the clients who get the most from forecasting and budgeting are small, owner-managed businesses where one late payment or unexpected tax bill can cause real pressure. The work is scaled to the size of the business, and a simple forecast reviewed regularly is often more useful than a complex model.

Do you give investment or pension advice?

Our consulting focuses on your business finances. Decisions that call for regulated financial advice, such as personal investments, pensions or mortgages, should come from an adviser authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. We are happy to work alongside your adviser and provide the figures they need.

When should I start planning to sell or pass on my business?

Ideally several years before you intend to exit. That leaves time to improve profitability, tidy up records and structure, reduce reliance on you personally and consider the tax position, including whether reliefs such as Business Asset Disposal Relief may be available. Starting early generally leaves more options open.
