What's Included

Every engagement is tailored to your business, but most of our bookkeeping and accounting clients rely on us for some or all of the following.

Monthly bookkeeping

Bank feeds reconciled, sales and purchase invoices recorded and receipts matched, so your records are accurate and up to date every month rather than once a year.

VAT returns under MTD

Preparation and digital submission of your VAT returns through Making Tax Digital compatible software, with a review of your VAT position before anything is filed.

Payroll & auto-enrolment

Payslips, Real Time Information (RTI) submissions to HMRC and workplace pension duties, including auto-enrolment assessments and re-enrolment.

Year-end accounts

Statutory accounts prepared from your records and filed with Companies House, alongside the corporation tax return for limited companies.

Management accounts

Monthly or quarterly reports showing profit, cash and key trends, so you can see how the business is performing between year ends.

Cloud software setup

Setup, migration and training on cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent, including bank feeds and receipt capture apps.

Cloud Accounting, VAT & Payroll

Cloud accounting software

We keep your books in cloud software such as Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent. Bank feeds bring your transactions in automatically, receipts can be photographed and uploaded from your phone, and we can see the same live figures you do. If you are moving from spreadsheets or desktop software, we handle the migration and show you how to get the most from the system.

VAT returns under Making Tax Digital

All VAT-registered businesses must keep digital records and file VAT returns using Making Tax Digital compatible software. We prepare your returns from your bookkeeping records, check them for errors and unusual items, and submit them to HMRC on your behalf. We can also advise on registration, the VAT scheme that suits your business and whether any special rules apply to your sector.

Payroll, RTI and auto-enrolment

As an employer you must report pay and deductions to HMRC under Real Time Information each time you pay your staff, and meet your workplace pension duties under auto-enrolment. We run your payroll, produce payslips, make the RTI submissions and help you stay on top of your pension obligations, whether you have one director on the payroll or a growing team.

Year-end accounts and Companies House filing

For limited companies we prepare the annual statutory accounts, file them with Companies House and prepare the corporation tax return. For sole traders and landlords, we use your records to prepare the figures for your self assessment tax return. Because your books are already up to date, year end becomes a review rather than a rush.

Management accounts

Statutory accounts look backwards. Management accounts give you a regular view of profit, cash flow and key figures during the year, so you can spot problems early, plan for tax payments and make decisions with confidence. We can tailor them to the numbers that matter most to you, and talk you through them.

Who It's For

Sole traders and landlords need to prepare for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, which requires digital records and quarterly updates once your qualifying income passes the threshold. Our guide to Making Tax Digital in 2026 explains the timetable, and our landlord accountants page covers rental income in more detail.

Limited companies and contractors need bookkeeping that feeds cleanly into VAT returns, payroll, year-end accounts and the corporation tax return. See our contractor accountant services if you work through your own company.

Ecommerce sellers often deal with marketplace fees, payment platforms, refunds and stock across several channels. Our ecommerce accountants help reconcile it all to your bank. Construction businesses working under the Construction Industry Scheme can find out more on our CIS accountant page.

Already have an accountant but not getting the service you need? We can handle the switch for you, including requesting your records from your previous accountant.

How It Works & How Our Fees Work

We start with a call to understand your business, how you keep records now and what you need from us. We then agree a scope of work and a fixed monthly fee, set up or review your software, and take over your bookkeeping and filings from an agreed date.

Our fees are fixed and agreed upfront, so you know what you will pay each month and can budget with confidence. Packages are available for sole traders, landlords, contractors and limited companies, and you can see what is included in each on our pricing page.

Bookkeeping & Accounting FAQs

Which accounting software do you work with?

We work with the main cloud accounting packages, such as Xero, QuickBooks and FreeAgent. If you already use one of them we can work within your existing setup. If you do not, we will recommend the option that best suits the size and type of your business and help you set it up.

Do I need a bookkeeper if I already have an accountant for my year-end accounts?

Not always, but many businesses benefit. Keeping your books up to date through the year means VAT returns are straightforward, you know your tax position before the year ends, and your year-end accounts take less time to prepare. If your records are only brought up to date once a year, problems tend to be found late.

How often will my books be updated?

For most clients we update the books monthly. Businesses with a high volume of transactions may need more frequent updates, while some smaller sole traders and landlords are happy with quarterly bookkeeping. We agree the frequency with you at the start.

Can you sort out bookkeeping that has fallen behind?

Yes. We can bring historic records up to date from bank statements, invoices and receipts, then move you onto regular monthly bookkeeping so it does not build up again. If any filing deadlines have been missed, we will explain the options and help you put things right with HMRC or Companies House.

What is the difference between management accounts and year-end accounts?

Year-end accounts are statutory accounts prepared once a year, in a set format, for Companies House and HMRC. Management accounts are internal reports prepared monthly or quarterly to help you run the business. They show how you are performing against budget or the previous period, and can be tailored to the figures that matter to you.

Do you run payroll for small businesses and single-director companies?

Yes. We run payroll for businesses of all sizes, including limited companies where the director is the only employee. We handle payslips, RTI submissions to HMRC and the pension duties that come with being an employer.
